Come to a Close

Today is the close of the Winter Olympics and of the month of February. Time flew!
Ready to see US and Canada duke it out on the hockey rink. I like Yahoo!'s photo for it.

Got to spend some much needed time with CN~, JC~, and TC~ today. So good!

All in the Game

Team USA pulled Finland out of the running in hockey this morning, so we'll see USA vs Canada fight for the gold tomorrow. Should be an exciting game.

Round up of the last few Google icons for the Winter Olympics.
Goal.com's recent article on the World Cup got me excited again. U.S. vs. England in Group C's opening game on June 12th. Woot! Phil Neville Lauds Tim Howard & Landon Donavon As World Cup Nears.

Also looking forward to seeing (Germany's) Michael Ballack rock the field.

Check out FIFA World Cup match schedule here.

This is from World Cup 2006, but it's still one of my favorite TVCs (sports or otherwise) ever. Brilliant concept of two boys dreaming up their ultimate futbol team. Plus Ballack and Kahn in one spot - you can't go wrong with that. Adidas' Jose+10 (Impossible Team). Done by 180 Amsterdam.

I did not realize I was so irritating as a LOST fan. Apologies, readers! A tad late in posting, but The Onion does a great piece: Final Season of 'Lost' Promises to Make Fans More Annoying Than Ever. However, with the exclusive Darlton interview, I think The Onion folks are secretly fans. [Source: _yeahLOST > The Daily What]

(That being said, in case you're interested: Side-to-side comparison of Oceanic 815 from Season 1 and Season 6; the crash of flight 815 in real time. Okay, I'll stop now.)

Enjoy two new CCM tracks.
Been rockin' out to Me in Motion's new track and mv Loser.

Adie Camp also dropped new album Just You and Me. The South Africa-born songstress is married to singer Jeremy Camp. Here's her new track Where Could I Go.

Nerdy chic. Model rocking black frames and a beautiful Erin Fetherston dress for ready-to-wear Fall 2010. Yay orange!

This is old, but I just saw The Michael Gungor Band's White Man mv - addressing assumptions about God. According to the sidebar, this was made entirely with felt, and the art direction is fun and wonderfully done. Don't really like how the terrorist was depicted, and I wish there was a little more racial diversity, but otherwise the vid is very cute and the lyrics are great.

Looking forward to watching Ghana, after their performance in the Africa Cup (placing second after Egypt) earlier this year.

I like that my Gmail finally embeds YT vids into emails automatically .
A Fine Frenzy's Happier dropped recently as a mv. Video by M. Santiago. Features Landon Pigg.

This is an old clip, but I get such a kick out of Michael Emerson (Ben from LOST) reading a seemingly innocent nursery rhyme Little Boy Blue in the creepiest way possible for Jimmy Fallon. Brilliant! I don't know how he kept a straight face. [Source: _yeahLost > polkadotumbrellas]

(Literally) Pop the Question

Brilliant for those techies out there - proposal through a blog. Bakerella featured a great recipe for wedding cake pops in one of her posts and cleverly inserted a proposal at the end. Sugary goodness. [Found through MD~ > Bakerella]
Whenever I'm out walking, I like checking out the people sitting on the top deck of buses. The people sitting there like to stare down at the street below, thinking no one will meet their gaze. Very voyeuristic. They often give off a look of surprise before quickly glancing away when they see me watching them back. It's funny how we can be fooled into thinking we're in a private space when we're really not.

Leo Laporte from Twit interviews the two genius creatives behind the (Wieden+Kennedy) Old Spice spot, Craig Allen and Eric Kallman, to see how the TVC was made. Incredible that it really is one long take. The actor, Isaiah Mustafa, totally kills it. Laporte butchers the agency name a few times but his excitement for the ad makes up for it. I wish they had a behind-the-scenes vid too! [Source: Little Beard]

Filter Down to the Good Stuff

YTers put famous singers to shame. A bunch of YouTube musicians collaborate to redo We are the World. Certainly beats the recent celebrity version and shows how far technology has come. Great use of YT. We own user generated content.
We are the World 25 for Haiti (YouTube)

ICYMI, here is the recent celebrity version.

I hate paying for bottled water (not environmentally or monetarily friendly), especially if there is good quality tap water available. This bottle water filter is a brilliant invention, especially if it can transform water from tap to bottle quality. The water bobble designed by the ever-talented Karim Rashid. The filter can last up to 2 months, and at $9.95 a pop, it isn't a bad investment. [Source: The DieLine]

Pretty vegetarian dim sum we had today.

When poking through old papers, I rediscovered how much I like Dutch fashion photography duo Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin's killer work. I remember studying this stunning 2006 The New York Times collection of photos - with the theme on performers - by the team for comps an eon ago. See the slideshow for more. I was scoping out Vampire Weekend songs for PY~ when I came across their newly dropped mv for Giving Up the Gun. I've tried many times to warm up to Vampire Weekend and (apart from I Stand Corrected) have failed (tad too indie for me), but this track isn't bad. Plus it features Jake Gyllenhaal and some crazy tennis, so it's a win!

Researchers found that people who have suffered strokes and are unable to speak can still sing. Speaking and singing use different parts of the brain, and scientists are trying to further develop this aspect to improve communication. Amazing.
