My Treat

Happy Halloween, kids young and old! I spent it reminiscing about my Trick-o-Treat past and doling out the sweets. At one point I even got a little bit self-conscious about the candy. Maybe I should've gotten more variety?

Yahoo!'s banner page does a little tribute to Michael Jackson's Thriller.
Internet URLs may soon feature addresses in different scripts, including Chinese, Arabic, and Russian "characters." Read more at BBC News.

Fantastic graphic design/illustrations by Portland-based shop Always With Honor. I really like this style. Nice, clean work. [Source: Pixiome]

Last but not least, happy bday crazy kid!

Dancing All Night

First, some "misprints" from yesterday's post: I did indeed make too quick of a judgment call about the Norah Jones' song Chasing Pirates. Today I find it pleasant but probably not enough to warrant its own feature. Also the track from the 500 Days of Summer trailer is in fact Us by Regina Spektor (a wonderful song) rather than OneRepublic's Secrets.

I unsuccessfully went as a turtle one Halloween, but this Ninja Turtle costume by Vicky North is fantastic! I was always more of a Leonardo kinda girl though. [Source: Toxel > About]

Countdown to the 2010 World Cup has begun. (Also recently dropped is the trailer for the Clint Eastwood-directed Invictus, which centers around Nelson Mandela and South Africa's rugby World Cup win in 1995.) I can't wait till next summer!
Brilliant New Yorker cover by Chris Ware. Spot on. [Source: Design Crush and Kitsune Noir]

I'm a week late in posting this, but I really enjoyed Emma's (Jayma Mays) rendition of I Could Have Danced All Night from My Fair Lady (lots of chocolates for me to eat!). Plus dancing around in a wedding dress with Mr. Schu was the icing on the cake. Glee is such a great show; but now that they have (unsurprisingly) been picked up for a full season, I've been wondering how they would pull off a hypothetical second season, seeing as there are a number of high school seniors in the group.

Cityscape from Memory

It's been a hard day's night, and I've been working like a dog. At least I don't have to work all day to get you money to buy you things.

In an extremely rare case, I actually enjoy the newly dropped Norah Jones' song, Chasing Pirates. I can't believe it. I am probably of a deranged mind from working so much.

I however am not ashamed of liking the new OneRepublic song, Secrets. The intro reminds me a lot of the 500 Days of Summer trailer.

British artist Stephen Wiltshire uses his incredible photographic memory to draw famous cityscapes (including Hong Kong), often after only viewing them briefly. Diagnosed as autistic when he was three years old, Wiltshire has been drawing since he was five. He is currently at the Pratt Institute completing a large panoramic of Manhattan from memory. Check out the live webcam here. Unbelieveably talented. Find out more about Wiltshire at his site, The Stephen Wiltshire Gallery. [Source: Fistful of Sparklers > The Stephen Wiltshire Gallery]

Past and Future Me

Today I wanted to give a shoutout to Rocketboom. My very first vlog exposure, back before YouTube exploded. I stumbled across it again today, over three and half years later, and am happy to find it still up and running. Also, little did I know, I've been following (and reblogging) the tumblr of the current host, Molly, for the last couple of months.

Time capsule letters go digital! FutureMe lets you write an email and choose the date that it will be sent. Brilliant! Although it doesn't have the digging-the-hole-in-the-backyard sort of feel, at least you won't have to contend with any toads jumping out when you open it. [Source: Found through CL~]

WWW

Thank goodness for the interwebz. Seriously. We had to do some minor system troubleshooting today but thankfully a quick search remedied the problem. I don't know what we would have done fifteen years ago. Pulled out an encyclopedia-sized computer manual?

Really fun animated series Simon's Cat by Simon Tofield. Check out this short, Fly Guy. Tofield gets the cat antics and playfulness down to a tee! If you have experience with cats (and really, who doesn't?), it makes the clip all the more enjoyable. (Plus one for the dog lovers.)

91 cm Removed

In a bit of a wedding mode because I finally (finally) got to catch up on The Office and see Pam and Jim's wedding.

I've also been dreaming about weddings lately (don't ask).
But mostly I just like cake, so I wanted to feature another cake designer.

Jaw-dropping sweet creations by New Yorker Kate Sullivan, owner of LovinSullivanCakes. Her pieces have been featured in a number of high profile magazines. Check out these works of art. [Photo source: Kate's lovely photographers]
Skhizein - great animated short film about a man who exists 91 cm from himself as a side effect after a meteorite collides with Earth. Lovely art direction. [Source: Found through SM~]
