Single Status

If you have Facebook, you will have heard the news about my recent break up. Sleep and I separated yesterday, not amicably, mind you. None of this "continue to remain good friends" sorta thing. I won't be seeing much more of him again soon. Sleep, I miss you already.

Final lap, here we go.

Sweet Defeat

Today's post contains a healthy dose of pictures. Ready?

Like a blast from the past, when I used to be obsessive about pen collecting, check out this review of great pens and pencils from Stickers and Donuts. Funny that the majority are Asian products. See #8!
Whether you got to see all or none of the Olympics, check out this beautiful collection of Beijing 2008 moments from stern.de. These are my favorites.
In stark contrast from the fantastically horrible creations on Cake Wrecks, feast your eyes on these beauties from Crazy Cake Lady. She has some amazing talent. The lid of the treasure chest can open and close, and the ice cream cone "cupcake" is so inventive.
Cool photorealism (one of my favorite art genres) piece by Argentinian painter Diego Gravinese. [Source: Beyond Beyond]
One presentation done. Woot. I was starting to get sick of searching through wedding photography. Don't make me look at another pulling-garter-with-teeth pic. Please!

Brides and the Perfect Bridegroom

What a long day. It's been incredibly productive but also frustratingly the opposite at the same time. I've been staring at more wedding related photos than a bride/groomzilla planning a perfect wedding. Uff. A photo with a bride, just-married car (with tins), and groom driving apparently does not exist. My once pristine desktop is again a-clutter with jpegs thrown carelessly this way and that.

Got to check out the majorly creepy basement of school today while helping D~ out with a photoshoot. I definitely do not ever want to be down there alone (and preferably ever again). I don't know which room used to be the morgue but I don't want to find out.

F~ and I are planning up a storm for Tide. We scoped out a restaurant lead from D~ to see if we can shoot there. The people are so nice. My Cantonese always sounds so American when I'm nervous but the manager was super helpful. I'm excited.

A~ clued me onto echoprayer, which allows you to schedule and remind yourself to pray for people during the week. Great tool for those who need a little "prayer managing."

PWND

After watching Dark Knight and logging all those hours staring at pictures of dim sum, I thought it was about time that I got some real stuff. Let me tell you, there is nothing like sitting down to tea and some lian yong bao...and getting to talk in Cantonese. I miss home.

Speaking of Batman, can I just point out how irked I am that they didn't actually speak Cantonese? How hard is it to find Hong Kong extras?! I guess it doesn't matter for those who wouldn't notice a difference, but it's sorta insulting considering Hong Kong's film industry definitely holds its own. Look how much Kung Fu Hustle made, and how Scorcese already ripped off Mou Gaan Do (Infernal Affairs)'s screenplay to be "adapted" into The Departed. Might I add that the Mandarin used wasn't even 100%. Come on Chris Nolan.
I suppose the gorgeous shots of IFC almost make up for it. Almost. [Photo source: Fernando's Desk]After a fan's criticism about a "glitch" in the PGA Tour 08 game, Wieden and Kennedy (agency for EA) respond accordingly. (Amazing amount of hits in less than a week.)

Cold Design

The New York Times gives a cool 360 rotating view of the Olympic Water Cube. I really like the ceiling.
3D wallpaper by Hanna Nyman that lets you peel off certain parts to make your own design. [Source: NotCot]
Cute whale flower vase on Behance Network by Alessandro Beda.
Gorgeous northern lights photos taken in Iceland by Ivar Gudmundsson. I want to go there (and Tromso is still in the back of my mind)!
Today was rainy and cold. Perfect day to stay in to do work and drink tea. I'm wrapped up in a blanket in my room and can't believe it's in the 80s everywhere else.

Breather

(post for Friday)
I have never been so excited for the weekend! I'm not one of those people who live for the Saturdays and Sundays, but I think this week was super long. I am grateful that I have been able to be productive and also have so much fun at the same time. F~ and I presented again today for Tide and it went well. Next week will be two big final presentations.

Walking in the rain (when you're headed home and can change into something dry and warm) is such a beautiful thing.

Had a few things to post about but I think I'll give you a break too, reader. Go out and play in the sun!

Last, but not least, happy birthday to someone special. Celebrate, today is your day!

Bluntly Put

Logged my hours last night. It would take a lot for me to pull an all nighter and thankfully I avoided doing an official one. Critique went well (thank you for all the encouragement and well wishes!) and brainstorming for Tide went smoothly too. Presentation tomorrow and then I'll be done until next week. I can't believe the time just flew past. These next few days are going to be crazy but good. We're rounding onto the last few laps.

My desktop is much cleaner now. Yay! Let me know if you want to see before and after pictures. Let me just say that it isn't pretty.

For those of you who are up late unable to get to bed or simply need a tool for procrastination, check out Upl8.tv. It plays YouTube vids at random and manages to touch on most of the ones with high hit counts.
If you've ever played Second Life, check out this great reinactment by DraftFCB Paris. The flying part is hilarious.

Check out Unmentionables by Shinebox, for those times you'd like to voice an opinion but know you shouldn't. I like the last one in particular. [Source: NotCot]

Before the Plunge

I'm exhausted. Critique went well. Now I want to go and crash but have two big presentations still up. Another late night.

It's sorta nice in a way though, because all the Q8s are in it together. I think we're all going slightly loopy.

Great Men

(post for Tuesday...is it already Tuesday?!)
Gorgeous series by English photographer Sam Taylor-Wood entitled Crying Men and featuring some of Hollywood's finest. [Source: Arab Aquarius] Check out her other work here.
I like how Google and Yahoo! continue to get into the mood of the Olympics with their themed logos.
I am exhausted. F~ and I pounded out a video in 6 hours. Concepting, shooting, editing, voice over. Everything. I had to use my "low" voice to sound like a guy. Yeah, don't ask. The only thing I wish we had was a soundtrack. But the end result was 1.5 minutes of crazy stop action fun. I'm going to rest up and prepare for my critique tomorrow. Gulp.

On a side note, strangely I've been looking at a lot of wedding related photos today.

Hard Hitters

Beautiful flower vase platform shoes debuting with Scherer Gonzales' Spring 09 collection. I can imagine that they are not very practical nor easy to walk in, but they look beautiful with the fresh flowers.
Forgot to post these yesterday. Amazing photographs from Michael Phelp's win. Look at that paparazzi crowd! Check out more at Yahoo!Sports.
Also check out Sports Illustrated's frame-by-frame shots of Phelps' 100m butterfly win, snatching gold away from Milorad Cavic's hands by 0.01 seconds.
Today Johan Kramer, formerly of Kessels Kramer, came to talk and show us some films he's directed. All I could think was, "2 Kilos, 2 Kilos, 2 Kilos!" (M~, I thought of you, lugging those copies home for J~ and J~). Kessels Kramer is a big time agency - small shop but amazing work. F~ is seeing a lot of me this quarter because we're teaming up for a 24 hour brief for this, on top of working on Tide. Woot!

Book rough is pretty much done. Now I need to refine like crazy to finish it.

Happy Birthday to a certain Cow!

Trouble Comprehending

Right now I am trying to understand the hype about the Jonas Brothers. Don't get me wrong. They seem like cool guys and a little reminiscent of Hanson in the three-man brother band sorta way. But maybe since I'm not a screaming teen fan girl (this said from someone who was listening to Archuleta a few days ago) I can't get into their music. Test your own 15 year old girl worthiness by watching their Burnin' Up mv.

An Egyptian woman gave birth to septuplets yesterday in Cairo. Amazing. I can't imagine 1) having children and 2) carrying so many of them in one body. It is so cool how God has equipped the female body to change and nurture children. Read more here.

Congrats to Michael Phelps for achieving his dream of 8 golds today. M~ blogged about a series of great ads featuring him and I thought I would repost my favorite.

Clubbed

Nooooooo! Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince (aka HP6) release date has been pushed back from November to July of next year. Ack! Twilight, originally set to premiere in January, has moved up and taken its place. I've heard that Twilight fans are crazier than HP and LOTR ones, so this will surely make a lot of people happy, but it means that I will have to wait another year. [Source: ICYDK]

I found out today that it is possible to purchase airplane seat belts. Who knew? Get yours now - regular at Amazon or a cool belt version at Sky Belts that will make you the hot gossip topic of the day in middle school hallways. Oh yes.
A company in the UK has come out with the first biodegradable billboards/outdoor posters. Check out BioBanner to find out more.
My desktop is in a happy state of disarray. There are so many icons on it that the usually black background seems white. I won't post a photo cuz it might scare those who are sticklers for desktop neatness. Those who know me will recognize this contained chaos as an indicator that I am nearing the end of the term. Hold on to your horses, we're running headlong into crunch time!
