High Fashion Rollin'

Crazy week so sorry for a super short post. Was assisting for a photo shoot featuring Joanna Krupa today. She's a big shot model so it was cool to see how the photographer worked. One of the male models was actually from Bloomington (MN). Small world. Getting comfy with a bunch of models today wasn't bad for a days work. :)

Deep Breath...and Here We Go!

This week I'm working on firemen, pizza, Weight Watchers, Nicorette. Ah! So much stuff to do.

Highlight of the day was soccer. The colors won again! Woot!

Also someone from school randomly asked me if she could come to church with me. How great is that?! We went today and then had lunch afterwards. It was great to do one-on-one time.

Crazy how fast the term is whipping fast. It's so nice to get to know more people.

Unexpected

(post for Saturday)
My tummy is happy because I had decent dim sum today. :) I felt like it was never going to happen, so I am glad that everything worked out.

The weather is so gorgeous. Sorta like Minnesotan summer. Not too humid. It doesn't feel like we're breathing water now.

Check out this interesting site, I Need to Go. You'll have to find out for yourself what they're advertising. Pretty great (unexpected) concept. Don't worry, they keep it clean.
Cynical, tongue in cheek, tell-it-how-it-is ecard site, Some Ecards. Their tag is "Ecards for when you care enough to hit send."
Everyone from this quarter's TIR class has put out YouTube vids in hope they go viral. It's amazing to see which vids get 1 million and up hits. Sometimes it's the most random stuff.

Humor Me

(post for Thursday)
Crazy day full of highs and lows about advertising. I'm in this constant battle over whether it's the right place for me to be in. Our Anti-China and Pro-China (imports) got mediocre reviews but I got compliments for copy class. So...we'll see. My brain feels a bit fried from brainstorming.

Google just bought Grand Central, which will allow you to use one number (cell phone, landline) and will direct voice mail to one inbox. [Source]

In an act of great marketing, Saw (the movie) fans are encouraged to give blood. Lionsgate Studio will be hosting blood drives. Fantastic idea to tie a gory movie into something good. Read more here.

Recently discovered the British sketch comedy Man Stroke Woman. Brilliant shorts. These aren't the funniest clips but the other ones have a little more swearing (British humor and all).

Cheers

(post for Wednesday)
Been working on my Cheers script so I've been watching a lot of clips. Here's a great one of Frasier. :)

Comedy class went well! That was partially because it was group skit performance. Next week it's back to stand up. Blah!

It's crazy how fast the week flies. Hope everyone is doing well!

New Inventions

Happy Tuesday everyone. Let's get straight to it.

This week I am working on Toyota, Chinese imports, and Cheers (the TV show). We presented for the Toyota Prius today and our ideas weren't strong enough. Still love them though so maybe they just need a bit more work.

Xerox has developed a disappearing ink. The technology actually makes use of light-sensitive molecules that appear dark purple in color and will disappear after 24 hours. There is hope that this will cut down paper use because it encourages reusing. Read more here at Times Online.
Chinese designer Shi Yuan has developed wallpaper that can gauge temperatures (and change accordingly). Only the section of the wallpaper above the radiator shows flowers in bloom. Pretty fantastic. [Source]
Sony Ericsson has developed a phone that releases scents. The DoCoMo has a strip that acts like a scratch-n-sniff and lasts for 3 months. [Source]

Woozy

To my horror, I realized I have been spelling "balloon" incorrectly on my resume (of all places). Ah!

Great news! Today I went to donate blood and my iron was high enough! If you know my history of blood donating you will know it's been quite the fiasco.

Unfortunately playing soccer after left me quiet woozy. We still won though, which is amazing. We are having a streak (or a fluke).

British Airways has created the fictional comedian/flight attendant Pam Ann viral series. Check her out here.

For those Office fans out there, there will be an official Office Convention, held in Scranton on the 26-28th. Great way to bring fans together. Check here for a list of events.
Ikea has revamped its website to allow users to go into an alternate (almost 360) world. Great graphics and fun to click around.

Count Me Off

(post for Saturday)
Today I stayed at home and just worked and it was fabulous! I loved not having any obligations and being able to just be productive.

Haven't had a chance to post much so let's hope I can catch up!

Love in the Time of Cholera (based on the best selling book) is coming out soon. Here is the trailer. Beautiful music.

If you are a Harry Potter fan, you will know there has been a bunch of buzz (today in particular) stirred up by J.K. Rowling. To read about HP and Christian imagery, click here.

Been watching a lot of a capella lately. UO Divisi does an amazing rendition of Usher's Yeah. Check out their store here. Also, here is UC Mens Octet's version of Moulin Rouge's Elephant Love Medley. They're great cuz they truly make a performance of it. Fantastic job.

Interact

(post for Thursday)
I am not a fan of the fact that YouTube vids now have ads running below them. Ugh. We do not need them crammed down our throats, thank you very much. It's true, ad people do not love all things advertising. In fact, we probably hate most of it, which is why we got in the business in the first place.
Had an interesting long conversation about Christianity, broken hearts, and Kierkegaard tonight with a friend (the same guy I talked about the meaning of life with, if you remember that). It was enlightening. It is possible to be so different and still understand each other.

Stand up monologue last night was painful to say the least. Uff...I am just not cut out to be funny or a performer, but I already knew that going in.

Check out this great banner for Adidas. Just shows how internet ads don't have to be boring. Just click on the link and play!
Also...the interactive site for Arcade Fire's album Neon Bible. Make sure you click around.

Last thing for tonight...if you love Natalie Imbruglia's Torn, you'll love this.

In Passing

(post for Sunday)
Ah! I have a lot of post material but no time to post. Classes are eating me alive unfortunately.

One good thing is that soccer started up again. I played forward today, which was weird. But the game was a lot of fun. Perfect cloudy, windy weather and some new blood never hurts.

Just wanted to post two recent ads that you may have seen. The music for both is great!
At Last - Guinness (Etta James always gets stuck in my head afterwards!)

Toyota...

Also...been really into a cappela groups recently. Here is the quartet For U with their cover of Rent's Seasons of Love.

Nostalgic but Having to Live in the Moment

(post for Friday)
What a crazy week! I cannot believe that I am swamped already from three of my four classes. This will be an interesting term.

Too much work for a long post, but check out Fergie's new video Clumsy. I am not really a fan of her music, but the art directors who did this pop-up book style are amazing!

My "currently listening to" song makes me miss C~ (I listened to the original a lot when working into the night), and I wish I was back for reunion.

Hard Act to Follow

(post for Thursday)
It is amazing how hard it is to be funny. It feels as though making someone laugh should come effortlessly but it doesn't. You have to work at it and then refine it and then work some more. I don't know how talk show hosts/comedians can come up with 5 minute monologue material every night.

The first ever 3D television broadcast will happen Halloween Day on the Regis and Kelly Show. Walgreens will be handing out the glasses. Should be interesting.

In the Right Place

When I think about advertising, sometimes I feel so removed from it. Is that really me? But then when I am actually creating, it feels right.

Check out the new $100 laptop. It can survive being dropped, water on the keyboard, dirt, and its battery can last far longer than ours can. The plan is to distribute it to developing countries in an initiative called One Laptop Per Child. Pretty amazing invention.

Sony's new Bravia ad (by Fallon). This was done in New York using stop motion footage. So much fun!
(You may also remember Bravia's Balls and Paint ads.)

Dying Days of Summer

Haven't had much to post about, which should explain the lack of blogging. I'm ready to hit the ground running again tomorrow.

You guys might already know this, but Google Maps has added a feature that allows you to view major roads as if you were on them. Click on Street View and drag your little dude anywhere. Pretty amazing.
Check out these cool knick nack art pieces. [Source: Fun Forever]

Now that summer is officially over the stores have been marketing sweaters like crazy. I love fall clothing colors (deep purples, navy, and forest green) but it seems too warm for them still.

Been doing research on Christian comedians. Ones that are actually funny seem to be a rare breed, but I discovered Michael Jr. Props for coming up with material that is clean and funny.

Catching Up

(post for Thursday)
How did it get to the end of the week already? I hope it has been a good one for everyone!

Started a new book (well, one of three)...My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult. I'm about halfway through and it is pretty good. They are making a movie about it so I thought I'd check it out.Watched Training Day. I've been berated recently about not watching the "greats" so I'm trying to catch up. Great acting. This is the movie where Denzel Washington one an Oscar for Best Actor.

Kid's Stuff

Thanks for your thoughts on pastor titles!

Today I watched two quality (okay, that is debatable) children's movies: Princess Diaries 2 and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005). It occurred to me that the latter isn't really a children's story or that Roald Dahl never really liked children. Sure, we have James and the Giant Peach...but then we have The Witches and other crazy stories, especially his works for adults. If you think about it, 4 out of 5 of those children get wiped out in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Speaking of children, if you haven't seen his work, check out Jan von Holleben's Dreams of Flying. Pretty brilliant.
The largest 3D street painting. I love the concept behind this type of art. [Source: European Street Painting]
In a step towards growing up, check out the trailer for 27 Dresses that stars Katherine Heigl (Grey's Anatomy) and James Marsden (Cyclops from X-men). The movie is about a woman who has been a bridesmaid 27 times (and never a bride). Comes out in January. Regina Spektor's Fidelity is featured in the trailer. Watch it here.
Looks like Feist is the new thing. Her songs have been featured in the iPod Touch and LG phone commercials. People are just discovering her now, but really, dear reader, I posted about her back in July so you have been in the know for quite some time. Here's her My Man My Moon vid.

Technicalities and Misgivings

Question of the day concerns how you address the pastoral staff at church. What do you call your associate pastor? Pastor _______? Or is it different? And is there a time when it's okay not to preface your pastor's name with a title and just call him (e.g.) Bob? I know you wonderful PKs will know.

If you haven't seen it, here is the follow-up to Dove's evolution ads. I still have issues with the campaign, but overall they do a good job and bring awareness.

Just finished reading The Bestiary (Nicholas Christopher). Not much to say except that I don't recommend it. It is about a search for a bestiary (recorded collection of mythical creatures) that documents all the animals that didn't make it on to Noah's ark. If you are familiar with mythological creatures, this includes the manticore, cerberus, chimera, gorgon (e.g. Medusa), etc. The book was unintentionally depressing and hard to get into. Plus a weird anti-Christian (or anti-Church, rather) on a topic that seems very Christian.

Outcome

First things first. Crazy happy dance for someone who got good news today! God is so faithful.
And yay also for someone who is chillin' at home enjoying much deserved dim sum!

The temperature has dropped to the 70's and of course everyone was out in long sleeved shirts and hoodies. Only here, only here...

The weather has been gloomy so I've taken advantage of it and have been doing some quality reading. I forgot how much I've missed that.

Looking Back on the Things I've Done

(post for Sunday)
My fridge is a feast of watermelon right now. I bought a mega one recently and almost didn't have enough containers to store it. Yes, I am blogging again about the wonders of watermelon. It is just that good.

Today it rained on and off a lot. It makes me thankful to have a roof overhead.

How did it turn into October already? The year is slipping by.

Some more work from last term:
Exercise with words and images...
Polish-art style poster for Little Miss Sunshine

And finally...meet Lana (the Russian Blue)
