Pets and Dance

I got harrassed by elementary kids today. Elementary. They were yelling racial slurs from a bus. Oh my goodness. It makes me wonder when children learn cruelty.

Speaking of cruelty, talking to my partner today made me want to treat animals better than I have in the past. Going to go home and pamper my pets!

TIR is finished! Well, at least the classes part. Now comes the execution, which is just as hard but more enjoyable for me since I like production. 8 weeks of grueling brainstorming was tough but I'd definitely take it again next quarter.

Awesome dance scene from Step Up. My favorite is at the middle where he puts on the shirt and hat.

Check out these amazing fishbowl designs by Roger Arquer. (Check out more here.)
Don't Piss Me Off (shows the power we have over the life of the fish)

Russian Dolls (different sized bowls within one another; the fish can decide what size it wants to be)

Poisin Apple

Today I dressed up as Snow White to do a poster for Tori Amos' A Sorta Fairytale. It was fun. I have to redo but oh well. Since I don't usually post my work (sorry yuyu) due to a number of reasons, I thought I'd show you what I did this morning.
After months of wearing flats (and having my feet happy with me), I went back to wearing heels this week. Yes, it's strange. Needless to say, my feet are NOT happy with me but I suppose I look more put together?

Sending happy thoughts to those who started classes this week. Yay for learning!

Today I learned at albinos do not in fact have red eyes. The color is actually from the blood vessels, and because there is not enough pigment you see through to the red underneath. (Read more here.)

If you have trouble remembering things, check out HassleMe. You enter what you need a reminder for and it will shoot out emails accordingly.

Silly Cats

My question for today: Do firefighters really rescue cats stuck in trees? If I was a firefighter I would find it a big waste of my time. Not that cats aren't important, but shouldn't I be out fighting forest fires or something? Do they actually get those kinds of calls? And frankly, who told the cat to go and get stuck?

Today has been so long. I have had few hours of sleep, which has added to the fact. We got torn apart in our equate presentation today. Brutal. He liked the idea (which is a big plus) but I guess we had too much stuff going on. I suppose it's a good problem to have. We'll just cut down.

Part of the new HP ad featuring Serena Williams. Full version will air soon.

Lost

(post for Monday)
One of the best feelings in the world - finding something you've been looking for that you're convinced must be lost. How might that shepherd have felt after abandoning all of his other sheep just to search for the one lost lamb...and then finding it! Today I think I lost one of my erasers today (which has been with me since middle school) and I'm totally bummed out. On the other hand, I rejoiced with someone who thought they lost their credit card but then found it. Praise God!

Short post again because work is calling. Wanted to feature Chinese American singer Vienna Teng. She has a gorgeous voice...Tori Amos-esque. I'm surprised she's not more famous. Couldn't find an offical video (I think she's one of those indie artists), but here is a vid with her song Harbor.
If you haven't seen it yet tonight, the moon is gorgeously round and bright. God's creation leaves me speechless.

Half Awake Mumblings

Last night, in a state of sleeping awakeness, I accidentally ripped one of my contact lenses in half while removing it. I could not believe it. I just stood there and stared at it for a long while. I've never had an accident before so it's a bit hard to swallow.

Short post because I am tired. Church was a big blessing today, as was talking to a bunch of wonderful friends. The phone seriously started sprouting roots and attaching itself to my head.

To Go or Not to Go

I love Lifehouse. Sighs...

I am torn. I want to go to a friend's bday party but I am chillin at home. As you know, I'm a total party animal and he's my official party buddy but I can't walk outside in the rain and by myself in the dark (sometimes I wish I was a guy). But I still feel bad.

Check out Katy Towell's Childrin R Skary stories. Great Flash animation.
Now there is a way to download online videos. Check out KeepVid. Haven't actually tried it myself but all you have to do is put in the (e.g.) YouTube link for the vid.

Because you know I have green on the brain (and we are also working on an environmental client this week), check out these two vids emphasizing your part. The first is from National Geographic, which I think is an interesting sponsor.

Yay for Fridays!

(post for Friday)
I just found this amazing callous on my foot. The things my feet have been through. I am a pedicurist's worst nightmare. :)

If I ever get married I hope none of these things happen to me.

Great (albeit a bit creepy) Toyota ad. It's a little old but it's one of the classics.

September is right around the corner. With it comes the start of new show seasons. America's Next Top Model (Cycle 9) starts on the 19th and Prison Break starts on the 17th.

Check out Method's Come Clean website. It's sorta like a small confessional where you get to wash away your guilt. Interesting concept for a hand soap line.
For some Photoshop retouching fun, check out the Before & After work of Iwanex Studio.
And finally, a fake ad from Coloribus that I thought was pretty great.Currently listening to: Tell Me - Bobby Valentino ft. Lil' Wayne (horrible song but really cool Chinese erhu (?) background mix)

Artist of the Day

A close of another week. Time really flies past.

I love Pocky. Yum. Find out what kind of Pocky you are here. I turned out to be a Flan Pocky but I don't think that's correct. This Allstate ad (in partnership with weather.com) reports that the safest day to drive is Tuesday; the most dangerous is Saturday. The safest time of day is 3am - 6am; the most dangerous being 3pm - 6pm.

Tomorrow is the Mentos Intern's last day so make sure you check him out.
Been meaning to post these for awhile, but check out these fantastic papercuts by Peter Callesen. He works mainly with A4 (that's a paper standard...sorta like letter size 8.5 x 11) sheets but also has water installations. I can't get over the detail. Amazing.
Check out this manhole art in Japan. So great! [Source]
Also wanted to feature artist Patricia Waller. She makes/crochets untraditional stuffed animals out of yarn, wire, and cotton wool. And the funniest one:

Coke's latest mini movie ad, Happiness Factory.

Yesterday, the guys who made MSNBC Newsbreaker interactive ads (the one with the human joysticks) came to speak. They had some really cool stuff to show.
If you have seen the Guinness Hands commercial, check out this sweet site which allows you to make your own movie compilation of the hand movements.
Remember BK's Subservient Chicken? Mentos has taken it to the next level with its site Mentos Intern. Trevor, the summer intern, will do whatever you ask him to. He's there live on webcam 9-5 M-F. Check out what other people have asked him to do in the past.
To promote Adobe's CS3, advertising agency Goodby & Silverstein hired design company Brand New School to develop this interactive billboard. You can create (and erase) the image as you walk along. I think it was set up in New York but I am not sure.

Graffiti Research Lab allowed people to use humongous lasers to draw on sides of the building. Amazing.

Honda's new site, Hondamentalism, is getting a lot of buzz. You go through a series of game-like questions that test your memory, reaction time, and data head. I'm not particularly thrilled about the bland coloring, but the graphics are amazing.
If you have not played Line Rider, you must try it out. The goal is to draw a path that will keep your little dude moving for the longest time. Try it out at the above link, and then watch the YouTube vid below. These pros will put you to shame!

Last but not least, check out this amazing new technology. Papervision3D allows you to be in a 360 environment and click on the shark, fish, etc to interact with them. Amazing.
As usual I am blogging when I have mountains of work to do for tomorrow. So off I go!

Create Me Something New

(post for Sunday)
I would tell you about my day but I did nothing (seriously) so instead I will post cool design stuff.

Platinum, FMD, a 3D/CGI image conception studio, gave Amanco a new twist.
Sweet lightbulb design, LampLamp.
Band-aid like skateboard.
Wake n'Bacon, an alarm clock that wakes you up with the smell of bacon. (Seems like a lot of work though because you need to put a frozen strip of bacon in the night before.)
British biscuit/cookie greeting cards by de de ce.
And, my favorite for today, ultra cool sinks by William MacCormac that have no visible pipes or drains.

Flying

This weekend is truly the worst time to fly. It seems like every kid in the entire state is flying home to start school on Monday. Ahhhhhh! I am so impressed with how some of you handle this but I am not blessed with the same patience.

There is something about airports that makes me sad. It's always a goodbye and never a hello for me.

My favorite time to fly into a city is at night. The lights all look like bright little beads.

This week has been great. Got my taste of delinquency, visited two historical places, and shopped at Walmart. Plus, I am eating my favorite cereal right now. It doesn't get better than this. :)

Findings of the Day

If you are looking for a digital photo frame, check this one out. It is pretty easy to use (just stick a memory card in). I am not sure how I feel about the whole concept. I think I like my framed photos to stay still. Buy one here.

Steve Carell's new movie, Dan in Real Life. Cool to see him in a dad role.

Late Night Ponderings

(post for Tuesday)
I am up procrastinating on my work. I wish I could go to bed but I can't get my butt moving to finish my homework either.

I must say that I am glad I'm not a driver. It seems way too stressful. I can imagine myself crashing countless times. I don't know how you guys do it.

We visited Walmart again today (to return an item). I've gone there more times this week than all my previous years combined. I can't get over how cheap everything is. It was such a stark contrast afterwards when we went to Target. Much quieter and slightly less chaotic.

Isn't it nice to be missed? When someone realizes that you're not where you usually are without you telling them you'll be gone. Anyways, I am missing you guys as well. Going through a little C~ homesickness.

That Old Feeling

Today I stepped onto a campus for the first time in a long while. I had forgotten about those familiar campus things: elevator smell, shiny linoleum floors, water fountains every few meters, two toned wall signs with white lettering.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that they have their own little art store. Woot! How come C~ doesn't have that? My heart gave a shout of joy and ached at the same time as I perused through those old friends for sale: sponges and carving tools for ceramics, cold press paper for watercolors, premade wooden canvases for oils, Ilford matte photo paper. I miss doing art.

Went to a Walmart for the first time yesterday. Okay, maybe not the first time. But I think I've been there fewer than five times in my life. Seems like Minnesotans are automatically Target people. It was quite the experience. I bothered a few shoppers to ask their opinion on equate.

Check out this (really successful) viral vid for Ray Ban.

Having fun but I wish I didn't have all this homework to do at the same time! Also, I am all better now. Thanks for the well wishes!

Brevity

Today's class was actually a good one. Last week my teacher completely ripped apart my work. I remember being so angry that I talked back to him...sorta. But this week was so much better. He actually liked most of my stuff. Yay!

I am officially sick. Been trying to hydrate myself and getting more sleep. Will have to wait till tomorrow to do the latter though. Vegas presentation is calling!

Nothing too interesting to post about but check out this pretty tiara. Not really a tiara-wearing sort of person, but I was searching online for some (so that I could draw it for a poster). I like how simple it is.

Found out today that each lion's whiskers are unique. The pattern isn't shared by any other. Cool!

I think I am getting sick and I have a mountain of work to do still, so I am only posting these two ads.

Sell It To Me

Happy Monday everyone!
Clive Owen is featured in this month's Details Magazine. Woot! He's so cool! (Photography by Steven Klein)

Check out this great interactive WWF petition to stop global warming. Done by BBDO Philippines. Brilliant. Click on image to enlarge.
As some of you may know, I have become a total flip flop girl over the last few months. That is why this next event totally baffles me. It's a stiletto race - women run in 3 inch heels. Ouch! The clip is in German but I think you get the idea.

And now for the commercials I was talking about.
This one aired about a year ago I think. Great acting and concept for a boring idea.

Don't know how I feel about this one (it's a tad depressing) but I like Skittles, so...

This last one starts off so wonderfully. It even has the whole Love Story famous theme song that I mentioned in my previous post. But then the product flashes at the end and kills it.
This is also funny because people on YouTube loved this ad and people on the ad blogs hated it. Ha. Always the harshest critics. Tell me how you guys feel about it.

Finally, since I am doing Vegas (and the guys who did the campaign spoke at school today), thought I would post an ad from their famous What Happens Here, Stays Here campaign.

Impressive

Today I needed a little break (or visual stimulation, same thing), so I perused through recent ads. I had a field day with some great print and interactive ones.

As I mentioned before, I am doing Axe Deodorant as a client. I've always hated how they sell their product but after looking at a few of their recent campaigns, I must admit that I was impressed. They have done a very good job with their advertising.
Here are some guerrilla stickers placed outdoors.

They also have an interactive site, GameKillers.com, that lists all the people who could "kill your game" when trying to chat up a girl. Don't approve of the concept but the site is flawless and also surprisingly PG.
Moving on to other ads...I love this one. Click on image to view first and then read explanation below.
This piece was done in Spain and used to promote awareness for donating blood. Brilliant!

Check out this amazing picture by Jens Meyer. God's tiny creation. [Source Yahoo!News pictures]

And speaking of creation, I read today that there are so many stars in the universe that if you counted them all at 10 stars per second, it would take 100 trillion years. That leaves me in total awe.

Hmm...YouTube seems to be down at the moment so I will finish posting the ads in tomorrow's post.

Made non-banana bread today and it turned out really well! I am so confused. So it's NOT the baking powder? And it's not the bananas? Where am I going wrong?

Hope you all had a good weekend! Monday here we come!
