Way too tired to post anything big, but I might not get to blogging for awhile, so I thought I should post.
I always thought having a reusable fake tree was more environmentally friendly, but this article proves me wrong. They're saying that real trees can be made into mulch and don't require the use of plastics. Don't know if I agree completely but it's pretty interesting.
Working hard right now. I can't believe my comedy skit is coming up. Trying not to think about it. December is fast approaching.
Hope everyone's having a happy week!
Currently listening to: Say - John Mayer (I do not like him at all but this song is not bad)
Today was a packed but surprisingly productive day despite being surrounded by distractions for much of it. New things I am working on: an opera house, XGames, school bullying.
Not usually a fan of medicine ads but this one for Triaminic caught me off guard. Apparently it's a follow up of a previous campaign. My favorite line is, "I've got a me in my throat." Too cute.
Hope everyone had a great weekend! It has been pretty productive for me but this week is still going to be crazy!
Check out Brylcreem's Effortless ad.
And the (spoof) making-of video...
Cute doggie from American Apparel (I hate their ads but this was a cute picture). Made of Honor, the male-My Best Friend's Wedding, is coming out soon. It's really not a film worth promoting, but the website has a function to allow you to put yourself next to Patrick Dempsey. Simple tool but I know a lot of fangirls will be excited about that.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I hope you all had a healthy portion of good food.
I am thankful today for God's provisions and promises. He always follows through. I am thankful for family and for friends. I am thankful for every breath. For the beautiful day. For knowledge and learning. And for everything yet to come.
I was lazy today and did nothing but peel apples, bake, and then eat. I made a big batch of apple crisp and it turned out REALLY yummy. I was going to bring it to one of the two dinner engagements I had tonight, but, long story short, it didn't happen. So now I am left with lots of apple crisp that I have to consume all by myself. Not good.
Check out this great turkey votive candle by Sur La Table (the worst French-English name ever, in my opinion). It made me laugh so I had to post it. If you haven't heard David Sides, watch the video below. He plays by ear and does a great instrumental/classical twist on the hot songs of the moment. Here is his version of Rihanna's Umbrella.
New JC Penny ad, "Aviator." I think this fits the brand better than the Heartspot we looked at a few months ago but it still seems sort of off.
Have you ever driven past crazy church signs? I found these images on a Facebook group. They may or may not be fake but I thought I'd post them. Also, check out Church Sign Generator to make your own. I am not working on a car brief this week (thank goodness!) but check out these two ads. The first is old but still pretty fun.
[I accidentally reset my blog template so my settings were all lost. Please let me know if you notice anything out of place (font, color).]
I am taking a break from doing nothing to update. It's been a good weekend but I can't remember accomplishing much. I spent a lot of it cleaning up after the cats. There was pee, hairballs, temper tantrums, and scratching up of my suitcase involved. That is all in the past hopefully.
This week I am working on a vodka (yes, yet another liquor brief), breastfeeding (actually quite interesting), American Heart Association, and Doritos.
The roles of Lavender Brown and Narcissa Malfoy have been cast for Harry Potter 6 (Half Blood Prince). Check here to see the new actresses.
Interested in fried chicken and waffles...together? Hop over to NYC and check out Sylvia's on Harlem's 125th St. [Source: Jeremiah's Vanishing New York] New Bouygues Telecom ad (by DDB Paris). Fresh way to look at your cell phone's call list. We had a similar idea for Sony Ericsson in TIR back in July.
I was so amused by this that I had to post about it. Guerrilla marketing during a Colorado-Colorado State football game. Idea was to stop running water. So great! [Source:Guerrilla Marketing defined]Here is one of Swedish fashion designer Sandra Backlund's designs using clothespins from her In No Time collection. [Source: dezeen] Cool do-it-yourself concept for interior decoration: tree branch curtain.
(post for Friday) Sorry for lack of posting. It has been a long but fairly good week. I'm beat now.
It has officially gotten really cold. I feel like an idiot in 60F (16C) weather in a scarf and sweater. I would shrivel up and freeze to death if I went back to MN now. I heard you guys are getting snow! Jealous.
I tried gnocchi for the first time today. It is a pasta-y type of dish made of creamed potatoes. Stuffed with ricotta. Really yummy.
Went to watch Beowulf tonight. Actually, I was sorta sucked into going. If you're thinking of watching it, I would suggest waiting for the DVD. Amazing graphics. (I was skeptical at first. It has that video game sorta look that is impressive, but not impressive enough for me. But some of the frames looked like the real person.) But other than that...the plot is so so. And it's a bit anti-Christianity (subtly) and definitely a guy's movie. I went with eight guys and was the only girl, so go figure. On the other hand, I'm really excited for I am Legend.
Will post stuff I've been saving up this week tomorrow.
(post for Sunday) I had two friends from school come to church with me today. It's so fantastic to have church buddies...and even cooler that they asked to come. I think of school as very secular and separate so it's new (and amazing) that they can mix.
Today I want to feature famous Spanish architect/engineer Santiago Calatrava. He's done everything from bridges to opera houses to airport control towers. Much of his work is inspired by nature and the human form. I also love that he 's an accomplished painter and sculptor. Here is his eye-like City of the Arts and Sciences in Valencia, Spain.Lyon Airport Station (resembling a bird about to take off)Valencia Opera House
(post for Saturday) Got to get some good food and chill with a friend today. Very quiet Saturday.
This week I am working on Doritos, Vespa, Keen Footwear, and a t-shirt company. It seems like we're ALWAYS working on liquor, vehicles, and/or environmental issues. Zzzzz...
If you are a David Gray fan, check out this siteto stream his new greatest hits album. There is also a link there to listen to the Spice Girls' greatest hits in case you like that kind of music better. ;)
Sorry for the lack of posting. It has been a fairly good week. Classes are going okay. One of them particularly frustrating but oh well. I also got a marriage proposal last night and was asked for my phone number from a random skeezy guy today. Not bad for a regular week.
I like water. It is pretty great. You realize how much you consume when it is cut off.
Check out this site, Crying While Eating. It's full of clips of people weeping over food. There's something about that concept that makes some of these videos hilarious. My desktop is in horrible disarray. Oh dear... I posted about the new movie 27 Dresses earlier (a woman who's always the bridesmaid and never the bride). If you're interested, here are all 27 of her dresses. Most of them are meant to be hideous so there are some pretty good ones. The dress below was inspired by Peeps. Great new commercial for Klondyke Lottery. Fantastic for a product that's been done to death.
Currently listening to: Closer - Josh Radin (a recent find, his song Today is featured on the new Hilton Hotel ads)
(post for Tuesday) I'm getting my fix of college a capella. Man...I've liked UPenn's Off the Beat (check out a clip of their cover for Coldplay's Fix Youhere) for awhile but there are some other great ones out there. Check out the BOCA (Best of College A Capella) cds on iTunes for a taste.
This sorta goes without saying, but YouTube is pretty fantastic. I think I've become so dependent of it that it surprises me when I DON'T find something on it. It's hard to believe that three years ago it was barely a blip on anyone's radar.
Just had to post these great sugar cookies (yay!).
Currently listening to: Taken Up - St. Olaf's The Limestones
If you're looking to connect or get reviews of restaurants, hotels, shopping, etc. within your city, check out Yelp. Reviews are written by people within their wide community of members. If anyone's interested, check here to preview the soundtrack for the movie Enchanted. Featuring Amy Adams, James Marsden. It's Disney's attempt to try something new. The movie switches from traditional animation into real life. Soulja Boy Tell Em's Crank That has been looping in my head. Bah! Anyways, check out this ballet class performing the infamous dance.
Recently watched The Departed and Children of Men. The former was...okay. I think I still prefer the Hong Kong original (Infernal Affairs). Leonardo DiCaprio was fantastic! But I'm sorry to say that I didn't really like Scorsese's camera work, and it irks me that they didn't put credit where credit is due. However, Children of Men was fantastic! Really depressing but I loved the long takes (one was over 6 minutes). Gorgeous camera work. And Clive Owen is (as always) amazing! My only gripe is the horrible DVD cover.
Currently listening to - District Sleeps Tonight (Postal Service cover) - PandemoniUM (University of Maryland a capella)
Hope everyone had a great weekend. Today is all about the warm and fuzzy.
Check out these great pics (and even greater copy) from ICanHasCheezburger. I posted Disney ads (shot by Annie Leibovitz) back in January. Here is a new batch of them featuring Roger Federer, Julie Andrews, Abigail Breslin, and Rachel Weisz. I'm thankful for my tongue today. Just to be able to speak, eat, taste.
Currently listening to: Crank That - Soulja Boy Tell Em
It's finally getting chillier here in the evenings. Reminds me of HK winters.
Again, too much to post but no time! Yikes.
Discovered the great late comedian Mitch Hedberg (who's from Minnesota...woot, shoutout!). He uses a rapid fire type of joke telling. Joke after joke after joke. I've included a clip of his standup in Canada. Contains a little bit of swearing (although not superfluously), so watch at your discretion. He's great though and he is funny without talking about sex, politics, race.
Check out this fantastic take on getting people to stop smoking. Nico Market takes the opposite approach and shows how you can make your house smoky or your teeth tobacco stained. Scientists discovered the biggest recorded black hole this week. It is 24-33 times the size of our sun. The previous record holder was only 16 times. Amazing. Read more here.

Great still of the movie Wanted. Yay James McAvoy.
Happy Halloween everyone! (<--that 'y' won't color!) I hope that everyone had fun in their own way.
I have never understood the whole dressing pets up thing but I suppose it may be because I've never had a dog. Check out these hilarious costumes. See more at People. Thought I would post the Scary Mary vid for those who haven't seen it yet. It's a great recut creepier version of the fun loving Mary Poppins film. He did a great job.
Here's the model that we shot with yesterday, Joanna Krupa. She's done GQ, Esquire, etc so she is a big deal. It was cool to see her work and she was professional. Apparently she doesn't like the right side of her face so she only shot full on or side view from the left, which I thought was interesting. Most of her famous photos are a little NSFW, so I couldn't post them and you may not recognize her from the one below. Check her out on IMDB as well. If you're ever in the mood to peruse commercials done by great directors, check out Gang Films. James McAvoy (Atonement) is in the new movie Wanted. I'm a fan of his. Check out the trailer.
