Geeky Cool

(post for Thursday)
Pretty chill morning. We finished up the French pastries (woot creme brule in the morning!) and then sent A~ off to the airport. Had to work in the middle of the day but came back and played with housie's nieces. They remind me somewhat of what I was like when I was young and they're pretty fun. Poor Zoe seems scared to death of them and keeps hiding out in my room. Took C~ around the ocean and the happenin' places (which were surprisingly quiet for a Thursday).

Check out this cool keyboard purse.

And I'm sure most of you have seen this, but here's the new cover art for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

100% Full or 0% Empty

C~ arrived safely last night. Today we went for dim sum with my housie (yum!) and then went to the beach. A~ and I scouted out soccer balls yesterday so I bought one for a reasonable price. It is an Adidas Teamgeist size 5 ball in baby blue. It came in use today on the beach. After, went for pizza. Each slice was probably the size of my head. No kidding. Will post pictures soon. Made the guys watch LOST with me at night. We are all tired out.

Reign

Yesterday A~ and I wandered onto the mainland after church and a stop at a French bakery (woot tarte au pomme!). What an adventure trying to figure out the bus route. Here are some pics from our adventure into Little Havana.
Today we went out and did a little bit of fine arts photog. I FINALLY figured out how to correctly use the light meter in my camera. You would've thought after three months of photo taking I would have mastered it earlier.

Just got back from watching Reign Over Me, the Adam Sandler/Don Cheadle movie. It had so much going for it...and I love Don Cheadle and Liv Tyler. But I would have to say the movie (which deals with the theme of grief) was a disappointment. BJ Novak (Ryan from The Office) had a cameo. We may check out The Namesake later.

Get Your Groove On

(post for Saturday)
A~ arrived today and it is a bit surreal to have him here. Unfortunately, it's been rainy strangely but we still managed to have fun. The highlight of the day was getting directed to a bar that supposedly had amazing DJs...only to get there and find out that not only were there NO dj's but it was also a gay bar. We still had fun clubbing it up. Got my dance moves on and everything. Ha!

got?

(Post for Friday)

I had to work for a longer period today. We are so short on staff that it is ridiculous. Afterwards, I stopped by and did a little bit of shopping, which I haven't done since I left HK.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet will be shooting a new movie together. This is coming after a decade since Titanic. As I said before, it's nice to see how both of them have grown into Oscar-nomination-worthy actors. I'm (in a silly way) happy that they are doing something together again.

Check out this cool interactive game from got milk?'s campaign. I can't believe that they put in the bit about the mom. You'll see what I mean. It's definitely a fun little video game with gorgeous graphics so I recommend checking it out. Here.

Shiny

Looks like LOST and Prison Break are among the shows to return for another season.

Did anyone know that Alcoholics Anonymous has Christian or Christian-based roots? I had no idea.

Cute pic of Rainn Wilson, Jenna Fischer, and John Krasinski at Rainn's The Last Mimzy premiere. (Source)
I made apple raisin bread yesterday. It turned out pretty good. The oatmeal gives an interesting texture, which I admit is growing on me.

Went to graduation today. It was a bit sad. They had around 10 ppl graduating and each gave a short presentation of their best work. I wonder if I'll make it to grad and how big the class will be then. The school has grown considerably in two years (when the current graduating class started). It was also awards ceremony and I received gold and silver awards. Gold was for my hotel brochure (which I didn't feel deserved it) and silver was for my self-portrait. Yay-ness though. Got to chat with a couple of classmates, which was nice.

I'm off to bed. Unreasonably sleepy today.

I leave you with a GAP ad (the music is unbearable but I like the two actors enough to post):

Round 2

It's been a rough week or so but I'm BACK and better than before.

If you haven't seen it yet, here's the trailer to Pirates 3.

And if you haven't seen this yet, check it out.

20 hours to paint. He wore it for 30 hours (and tried sleeping with it on).

Something happened to our water heater so there was no hot water for a few days. Don't worry, I still maintained my hygiene. But it made me think how much I take hot, running water for granted.

I am trying to lay off on the carbs...because I love them! It's a little excessive, I think. You know how you need to separate yourself from something you love once in awhile? Like when you just need to spend an hour away from your best friend (who you've been doing stuff with every waking moment) to meet other people? Well, that's how it's like with carbs and me.
So far it is not working. I blame you, cereal!

Deb and Gary came to visit last Saturday. It was SO wonderful (and a bit surreal) to see them.

There is also one of those R2D2 mailboxes that you've been hearing about on the news near my church.
Finally, some work from the term:
(1. Cover and back of my hotel brochure 2. One of the inside pages 3. CD cover and booklet inside 4. One of the booklet pages 5. Back cover)

Wednesday, March 14

Despite today being my sleep-in day (since I have class at 9), I woke up uber early and couldn't fall back asleep. I had Jewel's Good Day song running through my head. One of the lines is "Say to myself, "Self, why are you awake again? It's 1 AM," " which makes me really wonder. Because if she was awake AGAIN at 1, it is implying that that's late, right? I would think 3 or 4 AM would be more appropriate. Hmmm...

Yesterday was definitely less stressful than it could be. I got to print everything (successfully too!) early. At night, I became one with the paper cutter.

Finished my photo crit. It was tough, but I am glad it is done. I gave a copy to the hotel and they really liked it, so I guess the mission is accomplished. Actually, today ended up being pretty rough. Work went horribly, my internship person is asking me to do something tomorrow, and brainstorming slammed me with a worse grade than expected, even though he was full of compliments in our critique. I don't get it. I worked so hard and I just feel that some of the people that produced less and he liked more got better grades. Sighs. Luckily I was able to chat with some good friends tonight because I really needed it. But really, I am just plain angry.

Here are some examples of the photo stuff for this qtr.
Perhaps some other time.

Changing Perspective

I am currently munching on Fruity Cheerios, which are just like Froot Loops but a bit crunchier (like regular Cheerios). I like both cereals but I am unsure if I like them together.

Just played a wicked game of soccer. It was the last of the term and there was some great plays. It is sad because there are a lot of people who are on their last quarter and will be graduating. I have too much work but I am glad that I went. We even got champagne at the end! (I took a Perrier and asked a girl for her empty alkie bottle. You know me.:) ) *Edit: the Perrier is DISGUSTING by the way. Yuck sparkling water. Sighs, why do I still love you so much?*

Printing is still giving me a headache but hopefully it'll be okay in the end. The area is bustling with throngs of college kids all set for Spring Break. It worries me slightly, especially since guys (in general, not just the college ones) seem a little more fwd...as in, sketchy. I am trying not to go out at night.

Besides academic stress, things are going pretty well. I am starting to feel more at home here. The people aren't the greatest but I like the area and I am liking people at school. My housie is really helpful and I've really fallen in love with Zoe (the cat) despite being decidedly anti-cat for awhile. What a world of difference a couple of weeks makes.

Sorry for a picture-less post. I don't like it as much as you do but no time, no time. I will do so and get you guys updated soon!

Stress Relief

Down with printing! It's frustrating when you know exactly what you want...and you have a comp of exactly what you want...but the professional place can't get it right! One interesting thing that came out of my trip today was that I heard Mercy Me in the store. Woot for going on the secular stream!

I came home with strawberries, oatmeal, and oranges against my better judgment. I think I'm in survival mode, so I keep going and wanting to buy groceries! Ridiculous. But my housie said that it's a form a stress relief for some people. That was one of the best explanations I have heard. Granted I actually really like grocery shopping, but spending $80 is a little ridiculous. I need to stay away.

Oh No It's Friday

(Post for Thursday)

Sorry for lack of posting! It just reflects how busy I am. Right now I am still crazy busy but this will be my one little procrastinator moment before I head off to do more work. Time stamp on this post tells me that it's early and it is. It's finals week, so what can you do?

I've been breaking all usual habits this end of the term. Been eating so unhealthy or not eating at all. Today I skipped class, which is the first time I have done that ever...at C~ or otherwise. I did show up towards the end, so I don't know if it counts or not. And I've been staying up really late and getting up really early...oh wait, I've always done that. Never mind.

Yesterday the headache was printing. Photo has consumed all of my time and I finally finished, only to find out that I had an extra page (uneven number of spreads) so it wouldn't print right. Argh! But I think good came out of it. I think I would've burst (literally) if God wasn't keeping me calm. In the end, I got to chill with some cool classmates. Despite feeling really alone at the beginning of the term, I am feeling more and more at home, even with the Brainstorming class that I hated originally. It's nice to know more people and get "hellos" in the morning.

Okay, I'll stop ranting about my piles of work. I'm off to work on a design. Don't have time to post real pictures, but here's one of my desktop in its current state. Someone said it looked like constellations. And yes, those are a cluster of photos in the upper and lower left corners. Hope you're all well! Will post when I am better rested and more coherent.

Papering

So yesterday night I was all set to go to the Annual Fashion of Paper show. I walked all the way there (with a good friend who kept me company on the phone) and right when I was going to go in, I tripped slightly on a step and my sandal strap broke! If you are not a sandal wearer, this can be translated as a hopeless case. It really is futile to try to fix it. So my only choice was to hobble back home with one shoe. If this were at C~, it would be totally fine (nobody would even bat an eye), but this is a city. Imagine walking through downtown msp with one shoe. I probably looked like a bum. How embarrassing. I thought it was quite hilarious though. [Source]

On other less mortifying events, my partner and I got up uber early to shoot our talent on green screen. We are trying to create the illusion of running through still photos (sorta like a flip book) and our photog prof suggested shooting on a treadmill. It was quite the experience.

Spent the rest of the afternoon Photoshopping like crazy. My partner, who is a 3rd Qtr, commented that he didn't think I was really a 1st Qtr student because I have skills, which is one of the best compliments I've gotten here.
(My partner with our HUMONGOUS green screen)

Today the White-Outs vs. Black Sharpies in soccer. We kicked butt...I think it was 7-1 or something like that.

Like Cream Filling

I don't know when this post counts for, but I guess it could be a double whammy for Friday. It's been a crazy week. One of the first times where I felt that maybe I belong here too. Looks like Brainstorming really makes or breaks my mentality about this industry.

Felt like I fit in a little bit more now as well. Perhaps because I am getting to know people better.

I'm sure you guys could care less, but I finally got a chance to finish watching Grey's Anatomy. They did a 3 part "to be continued" series, which I was really impressed by. Part 3 is a killer ep. Check out the song Swans at the end of this post.

Because I didn't really get to post about the Oscars, here are two great photos.
(Abigail Breslin (who looked amazing) and Jaden Smith presenting Best Shorts)

(Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, who won Best Picture for Titanic a decade ago. Wow! It really has been that long. Nice to see how they have both grown as actors.) [Source]

How did it become March? I am on the white team for soccer this Sunday. We are going to kick Coloreds' butts!

That White Stuff

So here I am up early (to do work, unfortunately) and listening to KTIS and it's surreal to hear the broadcaster reading off the list of schools and churches closed for the day due to the snow. And it's even stranger that I will be taking off to work in a skirt and sandals in about an hour and a half. Why wasn't there snow when I was around? This blows.

On a sidenote, I have forgotten how nice it is to get up uber early (5 or 6) and wake up along with the sun. It's really peaceful. I think it's the best time for serious God time too (at least for me).

Congratulations on a certain someone who whipped out a killer draft of comps last week!

Okay, this posting was a little bit of procrastination for me so I'm back to work (which I am coincidentally focusing around snow).
