Been meaning to post these beautiful sea life-inspired art pieces for awhile. Emily Barletta's embroidery work and Jennifer Maestre's colored pencil sculpture. Ben & Jerry's is offering free ice cream from 5-8 PM on Election Day in celebration for voting. Yum.
Follow up to the Don't Vote celeb PSA. You guys all know how I feel about this...so vote! The whole world is watching. 5 More Friends
C~ showed me this great stuffed animal collection from the San Diego Zoo Shop. Reminds me of the shop that I passed last term. Cool new function in YT which allows you to jump the video to the time stated in someone's comments, etc. Cute poster for Ice Age 3, which is set to be released next summer.
Gorgeously directed ad/mini film for Pantene's Chrysalis Shampoo. The TVC has its bordering cliche and sappy moments, but I'll let them slide due to the great cinematography and ability to weave a story in less than five minutes. Definitely worth watching. [Agency: Grey Thailand]
Been trying to keep election stuff to a minimum on this blog, but I had to put these great Cabbage Patch dolls. I think the Palin one is the best. Can't believe the votes will all be in a week from now. I was never a Cabbage Patch Kid lover as a child (they were always sorta off for me) and preferred my stuffed animals. These are on eBay ready to be bid on. [Source: NBC] This is not a particularly new ad but I just heard about Burger King and reverse pickpocketing from A~ and J~. Great new term. The video can't be embedded, so check it out here. Meanwhile, this was probably the original.
The Harry Potter (HP6) new "international" trailer was just released/leaked today. It's like rubbing salt on a wound though, seeing as the movie was supposed to come out a month from now but is instead pushed back to next year. The teaser looks amazing though. Check it out asap because it is being pulled off of YT as soon as it's posted.
This is an old Ben & Jerry's ad for Phish Food flavor, but I just love the sound the sharks make! I think that might be the best part of the TVC. [Agency: Amalgamated]
The new Snow Patrol cd, A Hundred Million Suns, is set to come out tomorrow. Preview the new album first on their MySpace page. I heard rumors of snow in MN. I'm so jealous!
Currently listening to: Eve, the Apple of My Eye - Bell X1 (new favorite song by the band previously known as Juniper with Damien Rice)
Today Fall officially made its presence known, in the I-feel-the-skin-on-my-face-freeze sort of way.
Temperature drop aside, had a fun day exploring and sampling what this city has to offer with some old friends. We even reminisced about being a lab team together freshmen year. Crazy how many things have happened since then.
As I posted earlier about the YT easy-buy tabs, Amazon.com has started offering Free MP3s (which automatically play in your iTunes after download).
1 Litre water packaging that incorporates the cup into the product, much like the Hardy's Chardonnay design. [Source: Packagings of the World] Special congrats to A~ who is starting a new job on Monday. Woot!

Today I revisited Cake Wrecks and was delighted to find my trip amply rewarded. I am a big fan of her writing and, of course, the disasters also known as cakes. But instead of posting those crazy messes, I wanted to put up some of the more beautiful masterpieces. Incredible amount of detail and artistry (and of course bonus points for edible amazingness). Just FYI, the "Lego" figures supposedly can be eaten! [Source: Cake Wrecks, Great White Snark, Let Them Eat Cake, Confetti Cakes, Let Them Eat Cake] Nicely executed ad by W+K for Nokia. After working on a GPS brief last term, I know the category is anything but easy. This TVC doesn't share any new insight (and I in fact covered the same ground when I was brainstorming) but it is still fun to watch.
Check out Mixwit, a cool site that allows you to create and share "mixed tapes" of songs. The best part is that the player literally looks liked a mixed tape (and moves like one). Too cute. Way to go old school.
Publicis & Hal Riney's site uses webcam motion to flip between pages. Swing your hand left, right, top, or bottom to navigate the site. Just as I knew it would happen, I spent hours today Wiki-ing everything on the Tudors. Thanks to great high school history, art, and English teachers, I've always known the basics. But watching the show has caused me to delve deeper into the history of this crazy family.
On a completely random note, how cute is Michael and Holly's relationship in this season (5th) of The Office? It started thunderstorming here tonight, and it was so fabulous to be inside listening to the rain come down.
A subtle but new change in YT's appearance. Cool site Postcard.fm allows you to send an audio or image postcard. Send friends a song! M~'s a big fan of TheTudors and I finally get a chance to check it out myself. I'm a sucker for shows with gorgeous costuming/wardrobe (see Desperate Housewives) so it won't be hard for me to add this to my guilty pleasure list.
(post for Wednesday) Today I actually watched a TV show on my TV. I'm too used to watching everything (even live broadcasts) on my computer.
Aren't our bodies amazing? I hurt myself last week and it's incredible how fast the wound is healing.
Decent execution for a tough product in this LG Washer ad.
It reminds me of one of my favorite ads (the Ariston's Aqualtis one) I posted previously.
One of a trilogy of ads for Caterer.com featuring a "little" version of chef Gordon Ramsey. Nice viral idea for a pretty bland product. However, the real Gordon Ramsey doesn't mince words (or swear words), and this is no different, so be warned.
Milk splash chairs from TrendHunter Finally, for those of you who care, the new LOST Season 5 promo is out today (four years and one month since the crash). I seriously squealed when I saw it posted. YT keeps taking the trailer down unfortunately, but check out LOST's ABC site or search for it. [Edit: Found it!]
(post for Tuesday) I currently have David Archuleta's Crush song on loop. Ack! This does not bode well with me earning street cred. Maybe just random stuff on my mind.
Okay, enough with the dreamy teen girlyness. In a moment of weakness I let my blog's standards slip a notch. And there is nothing that snaps you back to reality than an surprise unpleasant gift from a passing bird. No joke, today I got pooped on. The nerve! I've survived the bird infested island untouched while studying abroad in college, only to be thwarted by some random avian idiot while waiting for the bus today. Getting pooped on is one of those really unfortunate experiences. It is not as if it can be 1) avoided or 2) pleasantly rectified once it has happened. Whoever said bird poop was good luck should seriously question his level of sanity.
Toilet talk aside, got to unwind by myself today and then met up with friends to see a contemporary art exhibit. Not really my cup of tea, but they did have Cindy Sherman pieces and some Jeff Koons and Miro inspired work.
Last Sunday's episode of Desperate Housewives had Lynette getting back into her marketing past and glory days. There is a scene of her flipping through a ridiculously ginormous portfolio of her work. I was intrigued until they zoomed up on one of the ads for shoes. Granted maybe this is supposed to come from a marketing standpoint, but I cringed.
Today was gloomy and rainy and perfect to stay inside covered in blankets. I loved it! The only thing better would've been someone to snuggle with and some hot chocolate.
N~ and I spent the better part of the evening trying to photograph her underwater. I think we got some good shots for her project, and it really made me appreciate water photography. It's not easy! J~ made us dinner and we just sat and chatted. Fun times.
Gorgeous old ad for Air Canada from Well Medicated. Was blessed to be able to skype with so many people tonight. Safe flight tomorrow, T~. Rock the teaching lesson tomorrow, J~. Super proud of you, C~. Praying for you guys.
Boston.com has compiled an amazing selection of animal photography as a belated celebration of World Animal Day (Oct 4). Here are my favorites (click link for more). New ad from Fallon. Not sure how I feel about it but it does remind me ever so slightly of F~ and my Tide campaign.
The TVC has an accompanying banner that tells you your rapper name. Enjoyed the beautiful fall day by church shopping, grabbing dim sum (yay Cantonese usage!), and sitting outside sipping hot chocolate and people watching. Have been feeling a bit defeated lately but I'm thankful for fantastic friends, family, and great conversations.

YouTube's new changes are coming by the bucket load. On some of the official partner channels, such as CBS, you can now revert to Theater Mode. Choose Lights Off to isolate your video on a blackened screen. Sweet. Cool business card from Struck. Reminds me of the growing cards from about a year ago. Okay, apparently I'm a sucker for sappiness right now. Another Zales ad.
As a spur of the moment purchase, bought pumpkin today and had a lot of fun cooking it. Yay for fall!
New ad from The Richards Group. I definitely love it, but (without giving too much away) can anyone explain how the string goes from one part to the other ? The video features the beautiful voice of Robert Francis. [edit: Rewatched and finally got that he was coming out of her apartment, not his.]
Cool tea art by Jack Cheng (past art director/copywriter) for Pearl Fine Teas. Extra-Mavericky (black) or Drink for Change (rooibos) flavors. Cake's scratch n' sniff album work by Aesthetic Apparatus. [Read more about it at Urban Art Warfare] Just had a wonderful evening chilling with a good friend. It's so strange when different circles of your life overlap. Strange but good. The night involved getting gussied up, eating yakisoba, and finishing off with a cup of hot chocolate over great conversation. Pretty amazing if you ask me. L~, thanks for being one of my biggest cheerleaders!
Malawian born painter Alan Macdonald provides a tongue in cheek combination of Dutch Golden Age style oil on canvas with branded goodness. The last one reminds me a bit of comps. This Sunsilk ad is a little old but it certainly tops this year's horrible Super Bowl spot. I love that it pokes fun of advertising ever so slightly. [Agency: JWT NY]
The British and French (aka eyeball and tongues) battle it out in Wieden+Kennedy Amsterdam's Coke Zero ads
Tribal DDB (Vancouver) has just birthed a series called Must Drink More Milk for the British Columbia Diary Association. The spots are a little bizarre (some much more than others) but each has it own beautiful art direction. Check out the one below and seven others on their site.
